Hello! My name is Matt Lauterbach. I craft engaging documentary content for the big screen, as well as for classrooms, museums, and the web. I also believe in making media accessible to all audiences, including those with low vision, hearing, or mobility.

I’m eager to collaborate with you!  Here is what I can bring to your project:

Engaging Storytelling – My goal as an editor is to take viewers on a journey that engages their curiosity and challenges their intellect. To do that, I distill hundreds of hours of raw footage into authentic stories of colorful personalities, unfamiliar worlds, and perplexing issues.

Sense of Rhythm – Directors who have worked with me value my sensitivity to the rhythm and dynamics of an unfolding narrative. In many ways, I view editing as an act of choreography.

Responsiveness – I tune in closely to my collaborators and take a ‘sandbox’ approach to editing, where multiple ideas can be proposed, tested and compared.

Smooth Project Management – My experience as Post Production Manager (2012-2014) at Kartemquin Films has given me an understanding of budgets, scheduling, and the technical side of delivering a film. I know what it takes to finish a film on time!
